Millenium Links Trophy

In1999 Mary Parsons (FLGC) and Sally Anderson (WLGC) discussed and planned to set up a special Ladies’ Match play competition. The first Millennium Links Trophy was played in 2000. The first finals day was played at West Lancashire Golf Club.

On 6th October 2025, its 25th Anniversary, the Millennium Links Trophy finals were held at Hesketh Golf Club.

The competition consists of teams of seven players playing singles match play and allows for a wide and inclusive range of handicaps alongside the opportunity to play our excellent local links courses.

Initially a draw decides a home and away match in which we aim to gain sufficient points to progress to the finals, which are always played on the first Monday in October. Each club hosts the final every eight years.

This year, having beaten Royal Liverpool at home and losing narrowly at Hillside, we finished along with Hesketh and Wallasey, on 16 points, whilst Formby Ladies had 17 points. West Lancashire were delighted to be in the finals for the first time since 2016.

After a wild weekend at the mercy of storm Amy, the day of this year’s final dawned calm and warm as our team, caddies and supporters arrived at Hesketh in time for breakfast at 7.30am. The draw was made at 8.00am; Hesketh v Wallasey and West Lancashire v Formby Ladies.

Our players did their best, with one nail-biting match going to the 21st hole, sadly, we lost the morning semi-finals. Formby Ladies and Hesketh fought a good final with Formby Ladies emerging victorious. Their seventh time as winners.

In the evening, joined by other members, we shared an excellent meal at Hesketh Golf Club with old friends and rivals and had a very enjoyable evening to round off a great day.

This year, Formby Ladies Golf Club is hosting the finals, and I hope even more ladies will want to become involved either as players, caddies or spectators to support our team should we reach the finals again.

The evening meal is always open to all members, not just the players, although the numbers may have to be limited.

The draw to establish who we are playing in the first-round matches took place in January, and as you will see we have drawn Royal Birkdale and Formby Ladies, so please support our team and its Captain who is always the Immediate Past Ladies’ Captain.
