In August, the Girls’ British Open Amateur Championship was held at West Lancashire. It was an event that Club member Penny Thompson (nee Burrows) had won in 1967 at Liphook.
The winner, Perrine Delacour (France) beat England’s Elizabeth Mallett (Sutton Coldfield) in the final by two holes.
