October – Tom Ball, West Lancashire’s playing professional, won The News of The World tournament beating Sandy Herd 7&5 in the final at Walton Heath.
He had joined the staff at West Lancashire in 1905 and was runner up to James Braid in the 1908 Open Championship at Prestwick.
